  • 2 tbsp (18 g) cornstarch
  • 1 cup (250 ml) unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 McIntosh apples, peeled, seeded and diced
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1/2 recipe Basic Shortcrust Pastry, rolled-out into an 11-inch (28 cm) circle

  • With the rack in the lowest position, preheat the oven to 190 °C (375 °F).
  • In a saucepan off the heat, combine the sugar and cornstarch. Add the applesauce and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Stir in the apples and vanilla. Set aside.
