Ingredients
  • 1 1.5 kg chicken
  • 1 onion, cubed
  • 3 Cortland apples, peeled, cored and cut into quarters
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • Melted butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons (7.5 ml) thyme
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons (7.5 ml) dried savory
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 cups (500 ml) sparkling rosé cider
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Preparation
  • Preheat the oven to 190 °C (375 °F).
  • Stuff the chicken with the onion, apples and garlic. Place it in a baking dish. Brush the chicken with melted butter and sprinkle with thyme or savory. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Arrange the remaining apples around the chicken. Pour the cider over the apples. Add the bay leaf.
  • Bake for about 1 hour 40 minutes, depending on the size of the chicken. When cutting into the meat, the juices must run clear.
  • Right out of the oven, remove the bay leaf.
  • Serve the chicken with the apples and juices. Delicious with potatoes.
