In a saucepan over medium-high heat, bring the water, cranberries and sugar to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until the cranberries start to burst, about 3 minutes. Let cool. Transfer to a 2-litre (8-cup) glass jar. Refrigerate until completely chilled. Add the vodka and seal tightly. Refrigerate for about 7 days.
Line a sieve with cheesecloth and strain the vodka. Reserve the cranberries for garnishing cocktails. Store the strained vodka in the freezer.
Serve over ice or in a Pink Martini (recipe follows).
