Step 1 Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 11x8-inch baking dish.
Step 2 Cream the butter and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer, then add the syrup and egg and beat well. Mix in the vanilla and dried fruit. Add the flour and mix well. Using floured hands, press the dough evenly into the baking dish.
Step 3Bake until the cake is set and golden, 25 to 30 minutes.
