Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) softened butter
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • Softened butter for brushing
  • 550 g uncooked bread dough (see note)
  • 8 3-inch (7.5-cm) deep and 3.5-inch (9-cm) in diameter clay pots
  • Preparation
  • In a bowl, combine the butter and garlic. Generously brush the inside of pots with the softened plain butter, then cover the bottom of each pot with parchment paper.
  • Cut the bread dough into 8 pieces. With your fingers, flatten each piece into a 20 x 5-cm (8 x 2-inch) strips. Brush each strip with the garlic butter.
  • Roll each strip onto itself to create small cylinders. Place each roll of dough vertically in a clay pot.
  • Place on the rack in the middle of the oven. Place a bowl of boiling water in the oven. Close the door and let the dough rise for about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Remove the pots from the oven. Preheat the oven to 190 °C (375 °F).
  • Put the pots in the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until their content is golden brown. Serve warm.
